COMMUNITY ADVISORY PANEL

These panels consist of industry management and twelve to 15 community members. The community members of the panel cover a broad cross-section of area residents including business owners members of the clergy, community volunteers, educators, emergency response professionals, health care practitioners, plant neighbors and senior citizens, to name a few. CAP members chose their own topics and speakers based on the interests and concerns voiced by the group. The panels work to achieve consensus and resolution on issues.

Purpose

The purpose of the Community Advisory Panel (CAP) is to discuss facility operations, environmental concerns, safety, emergency preparedness, community involvement and any other important issues that the CAP members and industry representatives agree are of mutual concern and interest. The community members also provide feedback relative to plant operations and ways to improve communications with the community. Although the panels serve as an advisory group and not a decision-making body many of the discussions they engage in lead to changes within member company activities.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of CAP members are:

  • Provide input to group discussions from an individual perspective
  • Seek to understand industry issues and provide feedback on those issues
  • Engage in the discussion of community concerns related to plant operations
  • Attend meetings on a regular basis and contribute to agenda topics
  • Be candid and honest and respect other members of the group

  • Community Advisory Panels currently in operation are the Lake Area Multi-Industry CAP, the Sasol North America CAP, the Lyondell CAP, the ConocoPhillips CAP and the PPG CAP.
